The management of the DeBeque Post Office has long been a disgrace
to our town and an outrage on the patrons of this office. Charges supported by the affidavits of
the most serious nature were filed in the proper department against W.A.E.
DeBeque, postmaster of said office over a year ago. No investigation of said charges has been
made to our knowledge except by a person pretending to be C.B. Wilson, P.O.
Inspector of Denver who failed and refused to investigate or hear of the
proof of the charges although it was tendered, now therefore be it resolved
by the Board of Trustees that the following charges be and are hereby made.
v 1. We charge that the said W.A.E. DeBeque,
postmaster at DeBeque Co has for years sold and is now selling intoxicating
liquor in the room where he keeps the Post Office.
v 2. He has repeatedly and maliciously delayed
and miss-sent the mail belonging to and addressed to the patrons of this
office.
v 3. We charge that charges of still more
serious nature have been made against him and proof of same offered and
refused by said inspector Wilson.
v 4. We charge that affidavits and other over
whelming proof of those charges have been forwarded & filed in the assistant
Post Master General’s office and that said charges have not been
investigated nor the proof refused.
Be it further resolved that a certified copy of this resolution and
